Influenced by the varied dictates of a site, I seek to create works that express a place simply and sensually, avoiding established style. Where possible, the work is fused with its surroundings and reflects a site's particular character, engaging the viewer in a unique emotional and visual experience. The forms in my work take on temporal, ever-changing qualities resulting from shifts in the viewer's field and/or changes in light. The ideas in my work are both architectonic and metaphorical–"enclosing," "opening," "revealing," "concealing." These ideas surface in the textures and rhythms, the geometry and proportions, and in the layers of immanent meaning: historical, cultural; conscious, unconscious; personal and collective. My work is not merely formal or purely abstract. Each attempts to combine a sense of place with a desire to make people feel good about being there. An effort is always made to incorporate the viewer in an active and substantial way while extending the function and enhancing the character of the space.

I have seen projects through in all their aspects–doing the design and presentation drawings, making models, taking photographs, producing working drawings, overseeing construction as well as participating in the fabrication. I have completed several large scale, site-specific commissions using fresco, tinted plaster and cement, glass, metals, various other building materials and lighting.
